WIENER FESTWOCHEN
Contribution to ‘Composite Presence’, Belgian Pavilion, La Biennale di Venezia, 2021

This capriccio was dreamt up by the computer. It builds upon research into incidental space conducted for the Gebäudelehre chair at the RWTH in Aachen. The structures shown are constructed using a digital neural network that dreams up a whole new assembly of gothic interpretations of industrial structures made in 2019 by the students. Rather than ruination by weathering, it presents a new way of constructing incidental space. Very much fitting to the idea of the capriccio as an architectural fantasy, placing together buildings, ruins and other fictional elements. The project's title, Wiener Festwochen, and the image description was dreamt up by a second neural network that we fed a short narrative based on your brief. The card presents a space that we are also still exploring, as we are only partial authors. The description and title makes its reading subjective in unexpected ways.
